Jasmin Burton Morgan

Jasmin Burton Morgan - Head of Science at The British International School of Kuala Lumpur (BSKL)
1. How many years have you worked for the BSF and where?

I have spent the last three years working in The British International School of Kuala Lumpur (BSKL.)

2. Why did you choose to work for the BSF?

I really wanted to develop Secondary Science curriculum in a growing school, whilst developing a department from the ground up.

3. What positions, and for how many years, have you had at the school(s)?

I have been Head of Secondary Science and MUN Coordinator for the past three years.

4. What do you love about your current school?

The students; their passion for science and drive to succeed is unrivalled.

5. What do you love about the area/country?

I really love the travel opportunities. KL is a hub for all of Asia and I have done a lot of travelling whilst being here. I also really love the food in Malaysia!

6. What do you like most about teaching internationally?

Experiencing different cultures and traditions, as well as studying different education systems around the world and learning from their successes and failings.

7. What strengths/skills helped you get to where you are today?

I am passionate about Physics and Science, and I am driven and determined to relay that passion to all young people I teach. I am also creative, which helps a lot when developing a new curriculum and teaching resources.

8. Which of your childhood teachers stood out and why?

My GCSE Biology teacher was a real inspiration to me when I was younger. He saw something in me that no other teachers did at the time and it was his belief that motivated me to succeed.

9. What are your most treasured teaching resources?

My IGCSE and IAL (Independent Active Learning) documents that I created. These help students assess and develop their own understanding independently.

10. What is the most memorable lesson you have taught?

When I first started teaching I did a lesson on separation of mixtures that I framed as a crime-solving exercise with my alter ego, Detective inspector Burton-Morgan. It was so much fun to plan and teach!

11. What do you like to do outside of work? Do you have any hobbies?

I like travelling, diving and sky diving. Any activity that exposes me to new experiences and gives an adrenalin rush!
