BSF Academic Results
Students at The British International School of Kuala Lumpur (BSKL) and The International School of Moscow (ISM) are celebrating another year of impressive IGCSE and A Level results respectively.
The British International School of Kuala Lumpur (BSKL)
Students at BSKL exceeded their targets to achieve 82% at grade A/A* with 58% at A* and 94% achieving grades A*-B; results that are comparable with the very top independent schools in the UK and are unprecedented in Malaysia. In a year where many schools in the UK and internationally have seen a decrease in GCSE results, it is a reflection of the hard work and determination of the students and staff at BSKL that we have seen a substantial increase on last year's results.
Particular highlights were Modern Foreign Languages with 95% of grades at A/A*, Maths with 90% of grades at A/A* and ICT and Biology also with 90% of grades at A/A*. Headteacher, Mrs Janet Brock explains, "The incredible success of this year's cohort is as a result of our focus on each student as an individual and it is this student-centred approach that has allowed us to facilitate the academic success of every student."
Alongside traditionally strong subjects, students also performed exceptionally well in English Literature and Music with 83% of grades at A/A* and Graphic Design and Drama with 80% of grades at A/A*. Academic Deputy Head, Ms Pauline Gradden, said, "Over the past few years, we have strived to develop a culture of learning rather than one of performance. This learning culture has allowed students to take risks and progress in a wide range of subject areas."
Adding her congratulations to the students and their teachers, Mrs Basman Zora, the new Head of Secondary commented, "These wonderful results reflect an excellent approach to learning from the students and the hard work of an experienced teaching staff. I feel extremely privileged to have the opportunity to lead this exceptional school at an exciting time in its development. I'd like to congratulate the students and wish them every success in their future studies."
The International School of Moscow (ISM)
The International School of Moscow (ISM) class of 2017 also achieved above national average grades with 52% A*-A, 81% A*-B and 88% A*-C. One student in particular received 4 A* grades, including 100% in mathematics. This is an increase on last years results, which reflects the hard work and determination of the students and staff at ISM.
Paul Keach, Headteacher, said; “Our students’ A Level results are a fitting testimony to the dedication and hard work that they have displayed in abundance over the course of the last two academic years. Our students have given themselves a fantastic start on their career ladder by not only achieving such impressive grades but also by being awarded places at such prestigious universities all over the world.”
Many of the students have secured their first choice university places including St Andrews, Kings College London, NYU and The University of Amsterdam to name a few.
Dean Moore, Head of Secondary School and Upper Campus, said; "I am extraordinarily proud of our Year 13 graduates. Their results are a testament to their dedication and motivation. For me the most pleasing aspect, aside from their excellent results, is that the vast majority of graduates have secured their first choice at some of the world's best universities. On behalf of everyone here on the Upper Campus of The International School of Moscow I wish them the very best for the future."
Adding his congratulations, John Staerck, Head of Sixth Form, said; "I am extremely proud of our 2017 graduates with over half (52%), achieving A* - A. ISM graduates achieved an average score of 48 which puts us amongst the top 40 schools in the UK (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/2017/01/19/level-results-2016-top-100-secondary-schools/). With all of our graduates heading to university, 83% of our students have gained places at leading research universities in the UK, America and Europe."
