Board of Governors
The Board of Governors at the British Schools Foundation (BSF) meet regularly with Heads of Schools and their staff, and maintains direct communication with parents and students, in the fulfilment of its responsibilities to oversee the governance of each school within the organisation.
A brief summary of each member is outlined below:
Stewart Fry - Chairman of the Board: BSc, MSc, London School of Economics. The son of two dedicated educators, Stewart has spent most of his professional career in the educational sector. He founded the first school within the British Schools Foundation. Since then, he has been instrumental in shaping the vision and guiding principles of the Foundation and overseeing its global expansion. Before that he was Vice-Chairman of King’s Group. Stewart has two boys attending a school chartered by the Foundation.
Ola Natvig - Managing Director: BSc, MSc, London School of Economics. Ola was a manager at Roland Berger & Partners and a founding partner of Ingenio Management Consultants, where he advised major multinational clients in the consumer goods and retail sectors. Following 10 years as a Board member for the British Schools Foundation and leading the initiative to establish The British School Yangon in 2013, he was appointed Managing Director for the Foundation in 2014. Ola has two boys attending a school chartered by the Foundation.
John Ordovas - Executive Director: BSc, London School of Economics; MBA, Instituto de Empresa. John is co-founder of the British Schools Foundation and for 12 years has been instrumental in the opening of various schools for the organisation. John has past experience as an auditor at Deloitte and currently oversees an investment fund which is actively involved in various investment projects for The British Schools Foundation. John currently resides in UK and has twin boys who have attended schools chartered by the Foundation.
Darren Brown - Executive Director: B.A. Chinese, B.Com Economics, Deakin University, Australia. Darren has a background in the construction and real estate sector. Fluent in Chinese and having lived in China for 9 years, he has held positions as a partner at LiHong and Associate Director at CB Richard Ellis. He joined the British Schools Foundation in 2005 and lead the initiative to establish the Foundation’s schools in Kuala Lumpur and Manila. He is a board member since 2008. Darren has two boys attending a school chartered by the Foundation.
Richard Anderton - Executive Director: B. Psych, Psychology, James Cook University, Australia; Graduate Dip. Chinese, Shifan Daxue University, China. Fluent in Chinese, Richard was Treasury Office Manager and Program Manager at the Australian Embassy in Beijing before joining ESR Associates as General Manager and later MRI Worldwide as North China Manager. Richard joined the British Schools Foundation Board in 2007 and led the team that established The British School of Nanjing. Richard has a boy and a girl attending a school chartered by the Foundation.
Michael Elms - Executive Director: BSc Business, Brunel University, UK. Michael has a background in banking and finance and was Vice-President at Deutsche Bank in Madrid before joining the British Schools Foundation. He led the team that established The British School of Navarra and The British International School of Marbella in 2010 and is the designated Board Liaison Director for both schools in Spain. He has been a member of the Board since 2011.
Elisa Lopez Moriarty - Executive Director: B.A. Industrial Relations, Complutense University, Spain; General and Legal Translator, Escuela Internacional de Traductores, Spain. Elisa comes from a background in journalism and sales, in particular operating in developing countries. Elisa led the initiative to establish The British College of Brazil in 2011. She has been a Board member since 2013 and is currently leading the development of the Foundation in South America. Elisa has a girl attending a school chartered by the Foundation.
Antonio Sanz - Non-Executive Director: B.A. English Literature, Hamilton College, USA.; CEP Institut d’Etudes Politiques, Sciences Po, France; PG Negotiating, Instituto de Empresa, Spain, PG Value Chain, Harvard Business School, USA. Antonio began his career with Procter & Gamble in Spain, Switzerland, Puerto Rico and Italy. He later joined Sanitas (BUPA) as its Marketing Director. He was appointed Brand and Marketing Director in Vodafone Spain prior to becoming Global Brand Manager for Vodafone Europe. Currently, he is a Senior Partner at Simplicity. Having held senior positions at major multinational companies, Antonio brings a wealth of business experience. A member of the Board since 2008, he has been fundamental in shaping the image, marketing and branding of the schools.
